European Cup Winners' Cup Semi-Final (1st Leg)
Spurs 1 Barcelona 1
The FA Cup winners against the Cup winners of Spain. A football extravaganza was expected as Barcelona arrived at White hart lane with a reputation as a good footballing side. However, they left London being called 'animals'.
Having beaten Leicester on Saturday to reach Wembley, this was Spurs second semi-final in five days. Barcleona came determined to stop Spurs at all costs. They took out the man at every opportunity and it wasn't until early in the second half that the Dutch referee finally took action and sent off one of the Spaniards.
Down to ten men, Spurs went looking for a goal - but were knocked back when Barcelona scored. A shot from 40 yars slipping through Ray Clemence's fingers and into the net. Spurs still pressed forward to equalise and with five minutes left Graham Roberts (Pic: Roberts) met a free kick from Glenn Hoddle to score from close range.
Barcelona were oblivious to the jeers and chants aimed at their direction, so pleased were they to achieve a draw and get an away goal.
Also on this Day:

Notts County 0 Spurs 2
The last occasion that Spurs played on this day was in 1992. County's season in the top flight was drawing to a close. Spurs had won 2-0 at White Hart Lane in December and were looking to lift themselves away from the lower regions of the 1st Division when the return game was played at the County Ground.
Gary Lineker's rich vein of form continued as he scored twice to secure Spurs victory. This brought his total of goals for his last four games to seven. Spurs had endured a very poor mid-season run and only the improvement in recent weeks saved them battling to avoid relegation. Fifteen points from seven games kept them safe but in the final five games of the season, they only secured four points. Peter Shreeve would be on his way at the end of the season.
